Getting Started

What is Box Miles?

Box Miles is a free personal practice tracker. You pick daily practices you care about, earn virtual miles by logging your sessions, and spend those miles on virtual flights between 500+ real-world airports.

How do I create an account?

Sign up in seconds — no email, no password required. You get a unique UUID, choose a preferred language, pick a callsign, and select a home airport. You will need to agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy to get started.

What is my UUID and why does it matter?

Your UUID is your only key to your account. There is no email or password recovery, so if you lose it, you lose access. Save it somewhere safe — a password manager, a note, anywhere you will not forget.

What is a home airport?

Your home airport is where flight searches begin. You can also depart from eligible nearby airports in the same country. One-way flights move your base to wherever you land.

How do I recover my account on a new device?

Use the recovery page and enter your UUID. That is all it takes — your account, miles, and travel history are all tied to that single identifier.

Practice & Miles

How do I start a practice?

Create a practice with a cue (the trigger) and a behavior (the action). Set a session length, and hit Done when you finish a session. The miles land in your account right away.

How many practices can I have?

Up to three active practices at a time. If you want to start something new, you can archive an existing practice to free up a slot without losing your progress.

How do I earn miles?

Every minute you log earns 10 base miles. Higher tier status earns bonus miles on top — Silver gets 25% extra, Gold 50%, and Platinum or Million Miler doubles your earning rate.

Is there a daily limit?

You can log up to 360 minutes per day across all your practices. The cap resets daily. If a session would push you over, the system logs whatever minutes remain.

Can I undo a logged session?

Yes, within 48 hours. Open the practice log and undo the entry. The miles and any milestone bonuses from that session are reversed. If you already spent those miles on flights, the most recent bookings may be reversed too.

What are milestone bonuses?

As you progress through a practice, you hit milestones at 10%, 20%, 50%, and 80% of your target. Each milestone awards a small bonus of extra miles.

What is the difference between archiving and deleting a practice?

Archiving pauses a practice — you cannot log time to it, but your progress and history are preserved, and you can restore it later. Deleting is permanent: the practice and its log history are gone, though miles you already earned stay in your account.

Flights & Tickets

How do I book a flight?

Search for a destination from your Flights page. You will see direct and connecting route options with their miles cost. Pick a route, choose one-way or return, and redeem your miles.

What is the difference between one-way and return?

A return ticket flies you out and back — your home base stays the same. A one-way ticket moves your base to the destination. One-way tickets cost half the miles of a return.

How are miles costs calculated?

Costs are based on the distance between airports, rounded up to the nearest 1,000 miles with a minimum of 10,000 miles. Early bird and campaign discounts can reduce the price further.

What are connecting flights?

If there is no direct route, you can connect through up to three airports per direction. The total journey must stay within 48 hours and 1.5 times the direct distance. Transit airports count toward your challenge progress too.

Can I depart from airports near my base?

Yes. Nearby airports in the same country are eligible departure points at no extra cost. You do not need to position back to your exact base to start a trip.

What is the early bird discount?

When a flight has more than 80% of its seats still available, you get a 20% early bird discount. Some campaign airports offer discounts of up to 50%.

What do the flight codes mean?

Flight codes are purely virtual Box Miles identifiers — they do not represent any real airline. Prefixes follow a country pattern like SG, MY, and GB. The US and China use regional prefixes such as US-W and CN-E. Odd numbers are outbound legs, even numbers are paired returns.

How do seats work?

Each flight has a limited number of virtual seats. Seats from bookings made over a year ago are released back into the pool automatically, so popular routes refresh over time.

Timetable

What is the timetable?

The timetable is a live flight board for any airport in the network. Browse daily departures and arrivals with flight codes, times, and destinations — it feels like checking a real airport display.

Do I need an account to use it?

You can browse any timetable without logging in. But you will need an account to actually book flights or reserve seats.

What do the seat counts mean?

Seat counts show current virtual availability on each flight. Lower numbers mean the route is popular and seats may sell out. You can use this to plan your next move.

When do seats refresh?

Seats from bookings made over a year ago are released back into the pool automatically. This keeps the network fresh and reopens popular routes over time.

Map & Badges

What does my map show?

Your map lights up as you travel. It shows your current base, past bases, visited destinations, transit stops, and airports you can reach next. The more you fly, the more the world fills in.

What are base badges?

Stay at a base airport for 180 days or more and you earn a base badge for that city. Badges are permanent — they stick with your profile even after you move on.

What is a callsign?

Your callsign is your public identity — a three-word name like Bright River Pilot that appears on your profile and public page. It is generated when you sign up and you can change it once per day.

How do public profiles work?

Your public profile shows your callsign, tier status, base badges, visited airports, and challenge progress. It never reveals your private practice details. Share your profile link to show off your travel record.

What is the airport heatmap?

The heatmap groups every airport in the network by world region and shows which ones you have visited, transited through, or have not reached yet. It is a collector's view of your global coverage.

Challenges

What are challenges?

Challenges are goals that reward bonus miles for reaching flight, airport, country, distance, and route milestones. They range from booking your first segment to visiting 75 countries.

How many levels are there?

Five levels: Starter, Explorer, Specialist, Master, and Legend. Each level awards increasingly generous bonus miles — 1,000 for Starter, 2,000 for Explorer, 5,000 for Specialist, 15,000 for Master, and 50,000 for Legend.

Do I need to unlock challenges?

No. Every challenge at every level is visible from day one. No hidden gates, no surprises. You can see exactly what to aim for and track your progress from the start.

How is challenge progress tracked?

Progress updates automatically as you book flights, visit airports, and explore new countries. Each challenge shows your current count against the target with a progress bar.

What are the challenge categories?

Six categories cover different aspects of your journey: Flight Activity, Airport Collector, Country and Region Explorer, Distance and Miles, Hub and Route Sets, and Global Coverage. Some Hub and Route Sets challenges feature named airport collections — specific sets of airports to visit.

What happens when I complete a challenge?

The bonus miles land in your account automatically. Completed challenges also show as earned badges on your profile and public page.

Privacy & Account

How does my account work without a password?

Your UUID is your only credential. There is no email, no password, and no social login. Keep your UUID safe — it is the one and only way to access your account.

What happens to my practice details?

Practice names and descriptions are encrypted in your browser before they ever leave your device. The server stores only the encrypted data — practice content is not stored as plaintext.

What data does Box Miles collect?

The minimum needed to run the app: your UUID, chosen callsign, base airport, practice progress and timing metadata, flight bookings, and miles ledger. There is no email, no payment info, and no real travel history.

How do miles expire?

Spendable miles expire three years after they are earned. Your tier status is based on miles earned in a rolling 365-day window. Both types of roll-off are shown in your Profile when they are coming up.

What happens if I stop using Box Miles?

Accounts inactive for 67 days may be removed. Once deleted, the UUID is blocked from reuse. If you plan to take a break, just log in occasionally to keep your account active.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Your Profile page has an export option that downloads your full account data — practices, logs, miles, bookings, and challenges — as a file you can keep.

Can I change my language?

Yes. You chose a language when you signed up, and you can change it anytime from your Profile page. Box Miles supports 18 languages.

Box Miles is anonymous by design. Your UUID is your key, your callsign is your public identity, and your practice details stay completely separate from your travel record. Your stuff is your stuff.
